Jeffpet Custom Pet Care: History and Resume
Growing up in the 1970s, Jeff's family operated a Vermont farm that raised and produced fine yarn made from Merino sheep. The family also worked with, trained and bred Australian Cattle Dogs and Border Collies.
Jeff was an original member and activist for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the animal rights group founded in 1980.
For most of the 1980s Jeff continued with the breeding and training of Border Collies and also competed in hundreds of sheep herding trials throughout the United States and Canada.
In 1986 Jeff completed a 24-week professional dog grooming course at the Kenosha County Technical Institute in Wisconsin. He then worked under Master Groomer Angela Thomas for four years while attending the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
In the 1990s Jeff ran a private Border Collie and Australian Cattle Dog rescue organization, and over the years has fostered and found new homes for more than 100 animals.
In 2004, after a career in real estate, writing and web design, Jeff decided to work with animals full-time, founding Jeffpet. Within six months Jeff brought aboard two helpers, Elizabeth and Phyllis, and expanded to include additional services. For the past eight years Jeff and his staff have trained, groomed, and cared for more than a thousand companion animals without a hitch. (Feel free to review our new Facebook Page for more detail.)
The Jeffpet staff have successfully completed a variety of courses and seminars in canine training using both the Collar and Lead and Clicker and Treat methods. We've had great success in using this combination of 'dominance training' in the style of Cesar Milan and 'positive reinforcement' in the style of Victoria Stilwell to elicit, motivate, and change behaviors. We have trained and worked with the owners of the widest range of working and companion dogs imaginable: from dogs with severe behavioral problems to puppies of just a few weeks of age and dogs with no problems at all but who nonetheless benefit from the mental stimulation of training.
Jeffpet has never been a revolving door of unreliable part-time help. You will always know exactly who is caring for your pet, and we will always be available by cell phone 24 hours a day. To Jeff, Elizabeth and Phyllis, this isn't just a way to make money, it's also a mission to improve the quality of life for both our pets and ourselves. We really enjoy what we do.
